Welcome Back to School - Saint Anne Students and Families!

It is indeed a blessing to welcome all of our returning families and all of our new families to Saint Anne Catholic School this week. I hope and pray that all of you had a most enjoyable and relaxing summer. We had a great ‘Meet and Greet’ Day on Monday, enjoyable and informative orientation sessions for parents later in the week, and now our first School Mass celebrated today, in which we asked our Lord to bless each of us and our new academic year.

I know that this will be a great year! Our new principal, Mrs. Nadine Villarreal, together with our new and returning faculty, are ready to challenge your children to grow in grace and in knowledge and to achieve their God-given potential in every way. I am very much looking forward to celebrating with our junior high students this coming week our diocesan televised Masses for the homebound, and also our 8th grade’s ‘Pizza with the Priests’. We are off to a great start to what I know will be an exciting and blessed year of growing in faith and reason.

There is tremendous excitement that the State of Nevada has recently passed legislation that offers Educational Choice Scholarships to our families in financial need, and Educational Savings Accounts to the children of those families who would like to make the choice and the change from public school to parochial school this year. This has been a prayer of the Church for decades; we are overjoyed that Nevada is the first state to respond to this petition in such a magnanimous way. We encourage all our parents to apply to these scholarships/savings accounts as soon as possible! The state websites that you should contact regularly are:

www.doe.nv.gov/Private_Schools/Opportunity_Scholariship_Program
www.nevadatreasurer.gov/SchoolChoice/Home

We will meet with all our parish CCD families this week to familiarize them with this state legislation, so that their children too might be afforded the benefit of a Catholic School education. And at all our Sunday Masses celebrated this weekend, the diocesan information sheets regarding the new state ‘school choice’ legislation (which you may consult on this website) are being distributed, and explained in detail, so that all the families of Saint Anne Parish may fully benefit from this great assistance and “choose a school [for them] which corresponds to their own convictions”. (Catechism, 2229)

Know of my prayers for all of you, both now and throughout the school year and catechetical year. Bless our Crusaders, Lord, now and always!

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Msgr. Gregory W. Gordon
